Questions

Everything about where your Wild Twin comes from, and what happens with your answers and your location.

Is the animal really near me?

Yes. We only pick from species with an openly licensed, community-verified photo taken within about 25 km of you this year. The card shows the date and distance. Where very few photos were shared (some rural areas), we look up to 50 km away, and early in the year we may use the last 12 months; the card always says which.

Where do the photos come from?

From naturalists who shared them under open licences (CC0 or CC BY) through GBIF, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility. Every card credits the photographer and links to the original record.

Do you track my location?

Your browser asks once. We round it to a 10 km area and never store your exact spot. If you'd rather not share it, pick your nearest city instead.

What do members get?

A new Wild Twin every month as the season changes what's around you, HD and printable cards, and an email when your twin is spotted near you again.

Can I cancel?

Anytime, in one click. The first 7 days are free.

How much is it?

The quiz and your share card are free. Membership is $2.99 a month after a 7-day free trial. Cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing.

Where the data comes from

Every sighting on a WildTwin card is a real record from GBIF.org: research-grade observations that community naturalists photographed and other naturalists confirmed. We use only records licensed CC0 or CC BY 4.0, and we check each photo's own licence again, because a record and its photo can carry different licences. Photos licensed for non-commercial use only are never shown.

Every week we check the photos on members' cards again, and a photo whose licence has changed comes off the card.

The species, the date, the distance, the photo and the credit always come from the record itself. The two playful lines about why you match are written by AI from your answers and the species' traits in our own table, never as facts about the sighting.

How the match works

The 8 questions score six traits: bold, social, night owl, calm, curious and wanderer. We keep a table of about 200 well-known US species, each tagged with the same six traits. Among the species photographed near you, the closest match wins; when two match equally, the one seen most recently wins.

Who it's for

Anyone who's done a spirit animal quiz, got wolf, and thought: that means nothing. WildTwin gives you an animal that actually shares your streets, parks and creeks. Under 18? Ask a parent before starting a membership: it's paid with their card.
